Hand Shimmy
- shimmy around centre finger
- great starter pose
- practice to build up stamina and technique
- put music on to practice with
7 Different Ways to Shimmy with Hips
- posture very important
- how you stand
- hold lower abs a bit - contract butt muscles
- shimmy comes from hips - keep strong, percussive
- feet parallel - close together - bend knees for flexibility
- carry weight forward - this is the best place to dance from
as it takes energy out of torso through heart
- you have to emote
Twist Shimmy - Ghawazee Shimmy
- turn hips back and forward like washing machine
- straight legs with relaxed knees
- add movement to this
- hands under chin or under hair
- up and down on toe - front and back small movement
- shift weight side to side moving arms up and down
- if you get stitch, lift and breath more
- EARTHY GROUNDED SHIMMY
Tilt Shimmy
- proper posture moving forward and back
- swing like a pendulum
- pull in lower tummy - up - in - release
- weight towards ball of foot
- move back or forward or side to side with feet
- use temple arms - one arm up one down for pose
- move by opening and closing legs slightly
EARTHY SHIMMY
Circular Shimmy
- lift to separate - soft knees - feet parallel
- upward movement - use abdominals
- up side - up front - up side - back
- movement up and down - side to side - forward and back
- move slowly - cross legs
EARTHY AND GROUNDED
Vibration
- feel a fist tightly then do that with leg
- if you held a fist long enough it would start to vibrate
- feet flat on ground
- grip feet - ankles - calves - thighs - gluts
- take care of how and when to do this movement
- great with costume with fringes
- (NO OPEN PITA)
- has to look like "oh is something happening"
Choo Choo Shimmy
- weight centred on feet
- transfer weight from leg to leg
- move flat foot
- legs together
- this shimmy moves - work up and down with hips
- going up on toes SAVE FOR LATER IN Drum SOLO
- move side to side - back and forth
- up on toes one foot in front of other
- change feet in front and twist with it
- arms can be snake like
Hip Down Shimmy or Suhair Zaki Shimmy
- step and drop hip - down, down, down
- forward and back
- knees slightly bent - turn in circles
- be long in waist
Vertical Hip Shimmy - Like Choo Choo
- used most of the time
- other shimmys for differences in choreography
- contract butt
- this is the "icing on the cake" as you layer on top of move
- circles, forward, back, fig 8's upward
- pose - arms up in air
- open pose - arms out front
- move forward, back or side to side
- head circles - rib cage circles
- undulations
- bellyroll
- up on toes with hands out - palms up
- cross your heart
- lift arms up and walk with this move
- many different things to do with this move
